I’ve been experimenting with Epsom salts this week as we now have it in our ingredients range so it’s easy to get! And to help you get the ingredients you need to make them we’ve put on sale a Bath Bomb Kit made up of 1kg of Epsom salts, 1 kg of Baking Soda and a 10ml bottle of rose geranium essential oil and 10 ml bottle of lavender essential oil.
I just love these bath bombs I made out of baking soda, Espom salts, almond oil, cornflour, citric acid and rose geranium essential oils.
The first time I made them they were a complete disaster as I added too much water which meant they started reacting and so I had a fizzy mess rather than bath bombs! The secret with these is to get moulds or if you don’t have them like me you get really good and really squashing the powder hard into hand-made bombs. Then letting them dry for 24 hours. So opt for a drier rather than wet powder.
Rose Bud Bath Bomb Recipe
200g baking soda
100g Epsom salts
100g citric acid *
3 tsp almond oil **
1tsp rose geranium essential oil
1-2 tsp water
2 tbsp rose buds ***
2 tbsp green tea
Put all the dry ingredients except the citric acid into your food processor and whizz on fast to combine. Mix 1 tsp water, oil and essential oil together and slowly pour into the dry ingredients while you have the motor on.
You should have a powder which when you squeeze really hard will compact. If not you need to add another teaspoon of water. It might seem dry but you need to keep it as dry as possible so that the powders don’t react.
Now add the citric acid and whizz to combine.
Pour into a bowl and add rose buds and green tea.
Now squeeze the powder really hard with your hands until it compacts then place on a kitchen towel to dry for 24 hours. Or put in bath bomb moulds you can buy at craft stores. Put in an air-tight container to store.
*You can buy citric acid in the bakery aisle of most supermarkets.
**Instead of almond oil you can use other light oils like jojoba, olive or sunflower.
***You can buy rose buds at some Asian grocery stores, or else replace with dried rose petals.
