After a busy and slightly indulgent silly season I’m feeling a little sluggish and in need of a gentle detox and re-hydration, drinking lots and lots of water regularly throughout the day works wonders. At home we have a Bio500 bench top water filtration system that also alkalizes, it took a while to find something that didn’t cost too much, I love it, our water now tastes just like water! For this recipe you add four simple ingredients to a pitcher of filtered water and drink it throughout the day to help your body gently cleanse, after just one day you’ll notice a difference.
It’s best to make this the day before and keep it in the fridge overnight so that the flavours combine, you can then fill it up when needed throughout the day, I find it lasts for three days’ tops. My pitcher holds 1.5 Litres.
Ginger helps cleanse your system, settles your stomach, aids in digestion and prevents gas and inflammation, because it’s so spicy you don’t need much, about five small slices will do
Lemon is alkalising and will also help cleanse your body, the ascorbic acid it contains boosts digestion and which helps foods to be broken down easier, plus it tastes great, thinly slice a small lemon and add to the water
Mint is one of my favourite herbs, I love it in salads and it’s delicious in this drink. Mint helps to settle your stomach as it assists in preventing stomach acid, it also relieves nausea and will help you to absorb nutrients, pop in around 20 or so leaves
Cucumber has a very high water content so is very refreshing, they contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties, add about 7-10 slices
