Bed bugs are a terrible problem to have. These tiny little bugs can cause a lot of pain; their bites hurt and itch, and it’s very hard to see them in bedding. They hide very well, reproduce quickly, and can be very difficult to get rid of. If you notice a problem and get to it early, you can use diatomaceous earth to successfully kill the bugs and keep them away.
You may have to do this a couple of times to ensure you get any newly hatched bugs as the powder will not kill the eggs. There are other ways to naturally get rid of this dastardly bug, such as using steam to clean all areas infected or freezing all your linen and everything that came into contact with the bug (except your bed or furniture), but that solution sounds rather ridiculous.
Giving the area a very good clean and vacuum, hot washing all linen, clothing and any fabric that could have come into contact with the bugs, and then applying diatomaceous earth is a natural solution that works.
How to use diatomaceous earth to get rid of bed bugs
First of all you need to wash on hot all linen, clothing and any fabric that could have come into contact, then store away from the area until you’re certain they are gone.
Remove all clutter and vacuum the room/area very well, getting into all the corners and under furniture, cushions etc. The most common place for bed bugs to hide is along the seems and in the corners of your mattress, vacuum this area particularly well with your vacuums hose attachment.
Now it’s time to apply the Debug diatomaceous earth, it’s much easier to use the squirt bottle for this process as it’s directional. Apply to all areas, in any cracks, crevices, door jams and in and around furniture, mattresses and onto carpet. Use a mask whilst you apply and work it into all areas. Then seal up the room and leave over night. One application will get all hatched bugs. You can vacuum up the DE the next day. Keep an eye on your situation and repeat this process if necessary.
Continuing to use DE in your home will help prevent these bugs and other infestations such as flea and cockroach. Leaving some of the DE around the edges of your room is recommended for this.
