Rub-on Coconut Deodorant Recipe
Rub-on Coconut Deodorant
1/4 cup of baking soda
1/4 cup of arrowroot
4 Tb coconut oil softened
1/4 tsp essential oil of your choice or none if you want it to be unscented
1 tsp rosewater
Mix all the ingredients together to make a paste. Use 1/4 tsp on your fingertip and rub on your armpits. In hot weather this will be a liquid so shake first, in cold it will be solid. Just place your finger on it for a moment to melt enough to use.
*To soften coconut oil put it in the sun or place in a jar in a bowl of hot water. In summer it should be quite workable at room temperature.
Can only locate Tapioca Flour being sold as arrowroot. Will this work the same ?
Yes it is the same thing.
do you use food grade or cosmetic grade coconut oil or doesnt it matter?
We use organic, but food grade is fine. Just the one you get at the supermarket will do or we sell organic coconut oil here.
Rose water…so many options and prices! Which do you recommend?
Thanks
Go to http://www.lotusoils.co.nz and ask them for their organic, preservative free.
Does this need to be stored in the fridge?
In summer it will be soft and winter hard – many people store it in their butter conditioner in their fridge or a hot water cupboard.
I read that you were including beeswax in your deodorant recipes now for pliability, can you please tell me how much you use as I am due to make a new batch soon. Thank you very much – Brilliant recipe.
Sorry I need to ask Sam about this. Will get back to you.
Many thanks for the recipe. I’ve been using aluminium free deodorants ,of various types, for years and years and have felt frustrated at not one of them lasting the day through. This recipe does the business. It is solid at room temperature (well, at least it is now, in the colder weather) but it doesn’t take long to scrape some up and have it melt into your skin with a bit of a rub. It smells great and moisturises well too. I will be making this recipe again and again.
Hi there, Love all your recipies! Just wondering how much bees wax I should add to help the deo from getting too soft/hard? Thanks 🙂
I just bought some of this and it is AMAZING! I would be interested in making some of my own when the pottles I bought run out. Would it be possible to put up your new recipe with beeswax? Thanks!
